Did you know that September is the National Suicide Awareness Month. Suicide is one of the top leading causes of death in the United States of America more than 45,000 deaths in 2021, that is equal to about a death every 11 minutes. Just imagine that the number is even higher for the people who think about or even attempt to.
Men are typically at the highest rate for suicidal thoughts and actions taken, men are at a rate of 3.88x more likely than woman.
This is one of the reasons why all the photos on my website are going to be men as the main staple point on the website for the month of September.
The men selected to represent my company are men who are amazing caring for others and creating a positive atmosphere within the realm of mental health.
If you are around someone who is considering taking their own life, you can take these steps to be there for them.
-lean in a listen to them
-get comfortable being uncomfortable
-create a safe space
One of the most important things to remember is to make sure you have your resources, there is only so much that you can do to help that person. You need to be able to make mental notes and offer help to resources if they ask such as the 988 National Suicide Hotline. Sometimes all the person could need is an ear that will listen to them and see that someone loves them...their story is not over.
